Balkans Waste to Products: transfer of NoI model to Balkan area:
de-siloing new waste-derived raw materials and developing new applications.

BloW-uP RIS proposal is an outreach of FREECATS NoI which will act as a “chaperon” transferring
NoI’s best practices and business models to stakeholders of countries part of the ESEE area to widen KIC community and de-siloing new themes.
The focus will be on technological exploitation of nanomaterials obtained from waste: iron oxides nanoparticles obtained from iron mining sludge (University Banja Luka, Bosnia Herzegovina) and carbon based materials coming from low rank coal and agro-waste (IOCCP-BAS, Bulgaria).
Such materials has high potential (in some cases already proven at starting TRL) to be applied in a number of technological areas: additive for lubricants (in collaboration with the company Tehosint d.o.o. and the University of Salerno); materials for fuel cells, electrolysers and batteries; catalysts for cleantech and eco-industry, as well as the mining sector.
This will impact on several markets including automotive sector (lubricants, Fuel Cells Vehicles), eco-industry (biomass transformation to bio-products, green hydrogen production), cleantech (waste water and air purification and decontamination). Moreover, the applications fall in the framework of circular economy and waste to products strategy.
